On 22 June at Jerusalem’s Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, Archbishop Fouad Twal was installed as Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, succeeding the retiring patriarch, Archbishop Michel Sabbah.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of 85-year-old Cardinal Emmanuel-Karim Delly of Baghdad and has called for a late January meeting of the Chaldean synod of bishops to elect a new patriarch for the Chaldean Catholic Church.

CHICAGO (CNS) — Mar Dinkha IV, patriarch of the Church of the East, died on 26 March at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. A virus infection and pneumonia were cited as the cause of death. He was 79.
